postheadericon Carlos Vela excited about LAFC’s CCL win

LAFC are going into the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League looking to win this elusive trophy. The club will be having striker Carlos Vela spearheading the attack. The former Arsenal and Real Sociedad striker has been able to contribute three out of the five goals that LAFC have scored in the CCL. He was one of the scorers in the 2-1 win over Cruz Azul in the Champions League. The goal scored by Vela in this match was crucial, as it helped the team secure a comeback victory. Ghanaian midfielder Kwadwo Opoku was the other scorer on the night for LAFC.

A penalty from Victor Yotun had provided Cruz Azul with the lead going into the game. It was expected that LAFC would go on to struggle from this initial setback despite playing at home, as the team had been going through a very poor run of form. Losses against San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders in away matches were sandwiched between the home draw with Portland Timbers in the final few games of the MLS campaign. It turned out to be a difficult season for the club, as they were unable to get past the quarter-finals of the Conference Cup. The CCL has proven to be a difficult competition for LAFC, as they have been unable to make a major impact – unlike their domestic campaign.

“Understand that Carlos, from the beginning of the season, was so excited for Champions League. Excited to play against Leon, excited to play against Cruz Azul. He’s already talking about now Club America. He left Mexico as a young player, so these games against the big clubs in Mexico, he’s not had the chance as a professional to play these teams. I also think Carlos is really proud of what we’re doing at LAFC and the leadership and role that he has,” said Bob Bradley after the match.
